Ang Bundok Nga Nahigugma Sa Langgam
is a picture book in Cebuano/Binisaya.
It was translated by Grace Monte de Ramos from The Mountain That Loved A Bird by Alice McLerrran, and illustrated by Beaulah Pedregosa Taguiwalo. It’s a book for all ages – about love, friendship, hope, and the promise of joy. It’s about longing and patience, how time heals all wounds, and how happiness comes and stays when we ourselves are ready for it.
The story, told in terms of a mountain made of bare stone that in the end becomes lush and green and full of life, makes this a perfect book for those who love and care about the earth. The illustrations, drawn from the landscapes of the Philippines, make it a picture book that will delight children as well as adults wherever they are in the world.

About the language ~ Cebuano/Binisaya, also known as Sugboanon, is an Austronesian language spoken in the Philippines by about 20,000,000 people. It is a subgroup or member of Bisaya, Visayan and Binisayâ language family. The name came from the Philippine island of Cebu, with the Spanish suffix -ano meaning native, of a place, added at the end. Cebuano speaking people, however, are not confined to Cebu. For this reason, some insist that the language should properly be called Binisaya.

About the translator ~ Grace R. Monte de Ramos comes from Siaton, Negros Oriental, where she was first inspired to write after listening to magical stories about Don Antoy, the town’s legendary enchanter. She is a full-time mother and always a poet.

I am an aspiring language student in the South of Sweden. I am a “lumad sugboanon” from Danao City. I was offered to teach Tagalog recently in the City where I live. I am more than happy to relay not just the language but our culture too. I was taken a a back as to the discriminating approach most of the native Tagalog speakers towards my Cebuano accent. Nevertheless, they can’t stop me from teaching. I would like to ask for advice as to books or some kind of grammar books in Cebuano for young learners. Gusto gyud ko akong anak makakat-on ug Cebuano kaysa sa Tagalog. Kay akong pamilaya pulos man Bisaya, walay punto, kung akong anak mag-Tagalog.
